Classes won’t stop for Election Day
Students who normally have classes on the ground floor will have to go to the Organ Factory on Saturday because of the state election. These are the classes of Louisa, Antonia, Annelie, Brigitte, Lisa-Marie, Jill and Kirsten. Students who normally have classes on the first floor will meet in their usual rooms.
Just head north
The interrupted street in front of the school is Page Street. The Organ Factory is on the other side. Look past the electioneering posters for colourful signs with the GSS logo giving you instructions.
Bring in those DVDs
Please return the GSS DVDs you’ve borrowed over the year (or years!) on December 6. An amnesty will be in effect for near-new and dusty ones alike.
The School relies on proceeds from its Christmas Party hamper raffle. Adults get a raffle ticket in return for their gold coin donation upon entry at the Austrian Club. The winning tickets are drawn over the course of the morning on the 13th December. Therefore we require families to bring goodies –preferably food donations– to school for the committee to put together raffle prizes for the big event.
Of course employers are welcome to make donations too. This is a new idea this year and a great reminder for all of us parents to touch base with employers who might have a policy to contribute to non-profits of their employees’ choice. If your employer can contribute, we will be happy to thank them during the event and here on our blog.
If you personally or your employer would like to participate by donating something appropriate, please bring these items to the committee room, on the ground floor, soon after school start on 6. December when we will package them together to make up the Christmas hampers. If for any reason you would like to contribute but cannot deliver the item on this date, please bring items along this weekend to hand to a committee member. Thank you in advance for your support of the school and this event. Should you have any questions, please approach any member of the committee or use our Contact Us form.
If a parent needs to chat to a teacher, please do so in person. This is the teachers’ preferred method of guiding you and your charges through their GSS education.
Perhaps at home your young scholars have been practicing their Lieder for our Christmas send-off on 13th December. We’ll once again meet at the Austrian Club, from 9am until noon. Invitations will be handed to the children this Saturday. The event is open to friends and family, too.
The Year Ahead
All students who are currently attending can enrol for 2015 without going on the waiting list. If you didn’t pick up a preprinted enrolment form from a committee member, you can download a blank enrolment form.
The cost per student for 2015 will be $750 and we anticipate that the State will once again offer us a $100/student rebate, bringing the cost down to $650 per student. Payments are not required until 2015.
The school calendar for 2015 is online. Returning students start 31.1. and new students 7.2.
Professional Development Scholarship for our Principal
Finally, the committee is very pleased to announce that our principal, Magdalena, has been offered a scholarship to take part in the training seminar for DSD-teachers and examiners in Germany! This opportunity for Magdalena and the GSS was provided by the German Central Agency for Schools Abroad, or Die Zentralstelle für das Auslandsschulwesen. Magdalena will be off during much of January and we wish her a wonderful experience.
