Whilst the school receives some funding from the State and Federal Governments its continued operation is almost entirely dependent on the contributions that parents are required to make to the German Saturday in the form of School Fees.
Amounts to be Paid
Our Kindergarten class is open to students who will be 4 by April 30 of the school year.
Kindergarten- Yr 12: $815/Yr (Note: Prep – Yr12 eligible for $100 Dept of Education grant)
Fees are due at the end of Term 1 and also calculated on a pro rata basis for those joining the school after Term 1. The out-of-pocket fees will only be $715 per student if your child qualifies for the Community Language School Per Capita Grant. Your student qualifies for the grant as long as you have correctly filled out the student’s enrolment document and he or she
~ is enrolled in a mainstream/day school
~ is not in Australia on a temporary visa
~ is not an overseas full-fee paying student.
The GSS supplies the relevant information from the enrolment form to the Department of Education and Training who provide us with the rebate. To avoid unnecessary shifting of funds, we adjust tuition on our invoices in Term 1 with the assumption that your student will qualify for the grant. Hence, the invoice will be for $715. But if funding for your student is not approved, the German Saturday School will invoice you for the full cost of tuition, or $815.
The discount is only available from the DET based on enrolments in the first term. Therefore if students join the school after the first term their fee will be calculated pro rata based on $815 and calculated for full terms only and not weekly.
For additional details about the Per Capita Grant, see the DET Community Language Schools Funding Program – Per capita grants section on http://www.education.vic.gov.au.
Forms of Payment
Fees are payable by electronic bank transfer to the German Saturday School nominated bank account. Cash, credit cards or other forms of payment are not accepted.
The payment of the full fee amount is expected in term that the student is first enrolled for. For students enrolled at the start of the year this means that payment is due by the end of Term 1.
Late and Partial Enrolments
When students are enrolled later in the year or only attend for a portion of the year then the fee will be reduced accordingly. The minimum fee charge is for one term, which equates to 25% of the full fee. Pro-rata refunds are only available for an absence of a term and not on a weekly basis.
A fee discount of 10% for three or more children in the same family will apply to enrolments fully paid in the first half of the year.
A fee discount of 10% is available to GSS teachers who have a child or children attending classes at the German Saturday School.
Discounts are calculated on the full fee amount prior to the reduction in fees due to the DEECD subsidy.
Where the Parents’ Committee has made the decision to exclude a student from the school after grievance/discipline processes have been followed, a full pro-rata refund for the remaining weeks will be arranged.
