Our Principal

Anja Kazmeier, Principal of the German Saturday School, Melbourne

Dear Students, Parents, Carers and Members of the Community,

Welcome to the German Saturday School.

My name is Anja Kazmeier, and I am delighted to serve as Principal of the German Saturday School. Having held this role since 2017, I feel truly honoured to lead our school work closely with our dedicated staff and committee to provide the best possible educational program for our students and to support the ongoing growth of our school.

Prior to my appointment as Principal, I taught at the German Saturday School for three years, beginning in 2014. During that time, I experienced the strong sense of collegiality and community that makes GSS such a special place, one where students are supported to learn, grow and thrive.

I was born to a German father and an Australian mother and grew up in Germany. I completed my Abitur (equivalent to the VCE) before studying English and German at the University of Stuttgart. At the age of 21, I moved to Australia, where I continued my academic journey. My qualifications include a Master of Applied Linguistics from the University of Melbourne, a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) from Monash University, and a Certificate in Adult Teaching from Cambridge University.

My primary objective as Principal is to provide strong and supportive leadership that fosters an inclusive learning environment where differentiated instruction meets the individual needs of each student. I work closely with our teachers to ensure that students are engaged in learning experiences that are both challenging and meaningful.

Our goal is to develop students’ communicative competence across the four key language skills—speaking, listening, reading and writing—while also nurturing a genuine love for the German language and culture. We aim to do this through high-quality language instruction and programs that celebrate German traditions and customs.

Parents and carers play an essential role in our school community and in their child’s educational journey. Your involvement greatly contributes to your child’s success and positive attitude towards learning. I encourage you to stay informed by reading our newsletters and calendar on the website, getting to know your child’s teacher, and participating in school events.

I would also like to warmly invite you to join our Parent Committee, which plays an active role in supporting our staff and enhancing the educational experiences and opportunities we provide to our students.

I would very much welcome the opportunity to meet you, so please feel free to stop by before classes, during recess or after lessons to introduce yourself. Building a strong home–school partnership is important to me and vital to every child’s successful educational journey. Please do not hesitate to contact the school or reach out via our website if you have any questions, concerns or ideas you would like to discuss.

I’m looking forward to a great school year!

Herzliche Grüße, Anja Kaymeier, MAppLing
